How did Stolab Möbel AB, a Swedish manufacturer of high-quality furniture, reduce robot programming time in the paint shop?
Well, it started with the decision to implement VR based programming via RobotStudio. This resulted in higher uptime in production, due to less on-line programming, reduced programming time and improved quality.

During 2019 Plastal in Gothenburg invested in a PVD plant. PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) is an environmental friendly production method used to apply chrome appearance on plastic products. RobNor AB contributed with an ABB IRB 5510 paint robot and application equipment to apply the final clear coat on the parts. In the picture you find Plastal's project manager, Stefan Olofsson, to the left and RobNor's project manager, Joakim Heimer, to the right. #robot #painting #paintr
Svensk Pulverlackteknisk Förening is an interest organisation for Swedish powder painters and suppliers. They are doing a great job increasing knowledge among their members and bringing them together through networking. At the annual meeting in November, Robert Ovrell was one of the guest speakers. He talked about ABB paint robots and how to apply VR as a tool to simplify and improve programming. With RobNor AB and ABB RobotStudio it's not the future, it's now. #robot #virtua
Dancing robots at the opening of the Robotics Experience Center at ABB in Västerås 2019 vs Dancing robots at a customer event in the ABB Paint Lab at ABB in Malmö 1993. More than 25 years in between the two occasions and you can note that there has been improvement. Nothing was better in the past except for the dress code. A major part of RobNor's staff was present then and are still present. Heritage and experience are both success factors for RobNor and our customers. For o
Even an old workhorse like the ABB IRB 5400 needs to be replaced. Back in 2005 we installed two ABB IRB 5400 paint robots on two 5,5 m rails at Väderstad AB. They have been painting high performance farm machinery for more than 13 years. This summer RobNor AB replaced the robots and upgraded the control system. We reached all the milestones including SOP as planned and started with full quality production from day one. With this investment Väderstad entered a new era of digit
We are not a VR company. We are a company that are specialists within automation in the paint shop. Robots, valves, guns, bells and other equipment is our core knowledge and we have more than 25 years of experience. About two years ago we started working with VR as a RobotStudio interface. We have had great success with our existing and new customers. It increases the value of the existing investment, simplifies programming and lowers the threshold for entering robot automati
Last week we visited Ljungby Maskin and Volvo CE in Braås together with a group of companies from the Netherlands. It is a great value for us to have the opportunity to bring new potential customers to our existing customers' fantastic production units. Thanks to our guides; Rune Andersson and Mats Pettersson at Ljungby Maskin and Henrik Öhlin at Volvo CE in Braås. Also a thank you to the companies who visited us; RobWelding, Hoeflon, PPG Industries and Straalbedrijf Boxtel B
Another customer is introduced to VR and robot programming for their painting line. Patrik Malmquist, NIBE's robot programmer for wood burning stoves, is in the virtual reality creating robot programs after just 10 minutes of training from RobNor AB's Marco Rossi. We have never seen a lower learning treshold for a software tool. In the real reality you find Victor Haraldsson, Patrik Ahlin, Herman Nordqvist and Anders Lundh. #robot #virtualreality #programming #training #vr #a
Congratulations to Trallfa Robot! This year, one of our closest friends is having its 50th anniversary. It is worth celebrating. Throughout 2019 we will be celebrating with activities, LinkedIn posts, seminars and more. Stay tuned. Trallfa started off early, 1969, introducing the world's first paint robot. At the time when Trallfa Robot was acquired by ABB, 1986, they had 50% global market share for industrial surface finishing robots. In pole position 1969 and still so in 20
Happy New Year! During the holidays our team has installed the Nordic's two first ABB IRB 5510 paint robots and application equipment at Volvo Penta in Vara. The new system means improved quality as well as paint savings and as a result positive environmental effects. In addition to robots and application equipment, RobNor AB has supplied equipment for VR robot programming. Volvo Penta's Bertil Andersson has made new production programs using RobotStudio and Virtual Reality.
Christmas premiere! A new VR movie is released from RobNor to brighten up your Christmas. More to come later, such as director's cut and extended version. It's a paradigm shift for robot programming. A production ready program created in less than three minutes. Contact RobNor to book your VR workshop. Contact information at www.robnor.se Thanks to Crescocito for the lab, Plastal for parts and Beckers Group for the paint. #robot #virtualreality #programming #robotstudio #vr #
Throwback Thursday! Important basic functionality, but complex engineering, is often forgotten in the shadow of IoT and digitalization. ABB stands for innovation. Integrated Paint System (IPS) was first introduced by ABB in the 90's. It's still a key feature to reach a perfect result, save paint material and reduce emissions. The acronym stays the same but the full name was later changed to Integrated Process System as it could also be used for sealing and other applications
If you follow "NorDan Sverige - Fönster & dörrar" you can see that they put in a lot of effort in digitalization through e.g. BIM and investments modern production technology. In their Bor factory they have a solution for door painting using parametric robot programs. The door dimensions together with window type and size are sent to the robot system and a paint program is generated automatically. The benefits are paint savings, increased quality and higher output. RobNor AB
Throwback Thursday! Robotics within paint automation has always and will always be an investment that contributes to a better environment. In the linked article, published in ABB Review in 1996, you can read about how ABB and Scania Group were pioneers within powder coating in the automotive industry. Surprisingly modern solution at the time with a lot of values that also feel relevant today. Most of RobNor AB's employees have a background from ABB and were a part of the pro
Sharing knowledge creates positive spin-offs and an upcoming JOT article. Our partner, POMA Systems GmbH, are experts in paint equipment and systems. Their equipment is often a value adding part to RobNor AB's robot systems at our high end customers. Implementing ABB RobotStudio and VR in their lab together with their ABB paint robot means better trials and, at the end, more and better business. Thanks to Dr. Thomas Scholz there is an upcoming article in JOT (Journal für Obe
Throwback Thursday! A few years ago Ljungby Maskin invested in a flexible solution for painting wheel loader components. The combination of an IRB 5400 on rail combined with a turntable is a perfect solution for HMLV production (High Mix Low Volume). When upgraded with RobotStudio and VR you push the limit for volume and mix even further. #robot #abb #painting #robotics #robnor #ljungbymaskin #hmlv
Classic robot programming training spiced up with VR. Plastal Gothenburg and Raufoss participates in a robot programming training at Innovatum, RobNor’s Trollhättan office. Trainer is Marco Rossi. Quotes from the participants (Anna Bengtsson, Jelena Panic Kostadinovic, Tom Rudi Åsen and Stig Tore Nilsen): - We think it was a very rewarding training that gave us a broader understanding and knowledge of robot programming. It was both fun and interesting to learn and try to buil
Throwback Thursday! We are continuously building our own and our customers' knowledge around the paint application process. In 2014 we had a workshop experiencing the real consequences of not using ATEX approved equipment. Always fun with explosions if you have control. Not otherwise. #robot #abb #painting #robotics #robnor #rise #riseivf #atex
